DX Points Launched

Finally here. Something I've talked about with a few fellows for over a month now:

Effectively immediately points are given to every DX orders.

While these points are definitely used to redeem products, I'm looking for ideas and inputs on what you'd like to do with them. Here are some of my thoughts:
  • VIP membership for express shipping upgrades (discounted or may be free).
  • Priority access to quantity limited products
  • A trip to space ... ... -- since Microsoft is sending people to space.

I'm also thinking to implement a system so that more points can be earned in other ways -- more to come on this area soon.

Here are the tidbits about the points system for now:
  • Effective immediately (officially began on Feb 3 midnight)
  • 1 point is issued for every $10 spent (including shipping, to keep things simple)
  • Points are reversed for refunds
  • If you have an account (with a verified e-mail address), you can check for your points with a detailed points history in the account manager (aka order tracking).
  • If you don't have an account or if your e-mail address isn't verified you can still collect points, but you won't be able to see or access them in anyway. Later on when you're fully registered you will have those points in your account.

Again, I'm looking for comments on this subject and inputs on what to do with the points. So please do post your ideas here.

You guys just HAD to implement the points right after my order, lol. You have a great site with great deals and the DX points are a great idea. Being able to use the points for discounts on items and shipping or even freebies would be great.
Great site, and I'm telling all the people I can

By the way, I just posted on my blog about your great site.
Just trying to spread the word.

That's a great idea as long as you still can make a decent profit to stay in business, since we all want you to be around for a long time. Reward points will definitely be something to look forward to.

I think the DX points are a great idea! It's nice to know that we customers can earn rewards for continued patronage. Redeeming them for merchandise or upgraded shipping are great ideas. Your idea of points for Forum participation is also a good one, as long as it's not too time consuming to track. Like Flashkat said, we want you to make money!

love the idea.

Dx points would be great- maybe cheaper shipping. Or 1 point is redeemable to the equivalent of $1?

Thanks for the encouragement and ideas. Please keep them coming.

In the meantime, I'm working on a cash back system so that points can actually be converted back into cash (paid out via PayPal). This is mainly for a new referral points system that I'm implementing and it can be released soon. I will keep it simply so instead of making the entire thing sounds like a money making program we just wanted a way to thank those who recommend us to others. I would love to hear whether you guys like this or not.

"Re", I know this probably won't satisfy you about your concern on the 0-point orders but I just wanted to give it a try at least.

While trying to keep our rates competitive, we wanted to do something for returning customers and thus the points system.

Also, we reward actually includes all shipping fees paid -- although we charge only actual shipping fees (sending things half way around the world by Air is in fact quite expensive). To keep things simple I didn't want to deduct the shipping fees from the points.

Looking forward to the points system in action. :)

Thanks for keeping a constant flow of new products coming in too - Always cool to see new and different things I never knew I needed but just gotta have!

This is the best site of its kind, ever. First 'shop' site I find myself checking regularly for prices and products. I love the forum integration and your excellent customer service (and of course low prices).

Keep up the good work Chens!

I'd like to see some free items like ThinkGeek does, or maybe free with a $10 purchase, etc.

http://www.thinkgeek.com/geekpoints/rewards.shtml

I think their point scale is a little different. The lowest item at TG is 150 points, that would be $1500 at $10 per point. Perhaps certain items or combinations can have a bonus point value. (Buy two 18650 cells with this flashlight and get 10 extra DX Points.) Anyway, love the new shop. Looking forward to receiving my first DX package now.

I wish you could offer EMS as an option for buyers. We have customers that just will not wait that long for orders...on top of the 4 days handling period. We have spent over $1500 over the past week, and nothing has been dispatched yet..Dx points over a certain amount should give customers VIP status.

I was wondering, how many points would be needed to redeem products? I currently have 79 points, and I was wondering what I could get with them? Maybe an R4? (That's what I want :) )

@ scott

sorry, but i dont agree. the points should be used for personal perks, not to be any better in comparison to other people.

on the other hand, i think using the points for discounts would be interesting. instead of free stuff, have like "x points = xx% off entire order" or something to that effect. then again, free stuff is always welcome :D

Great idea!

Why is it that when i get a refund for an item that is < $10 that i get deducted for a point, but spent over $30 for each order?

John said...

Can the system be changed so that it's every $10 spent including over multiple orders like two $5 orders would give one credit?

Giving DX points is a great idea for rewarding returning customers. I imaginge that your margins are thin so your options are limited, but a discount to express shipping, or a discount on the regular shipping, or a discount on the entire order would all be appreciated. Also, having points accumuliate over multiple orders would be great, so a $29.99 and a 30.01 order would get 6 points instead of 5.

Any word on the website Kyle? It's currently down! I have 2 orders (over 1 week old), last check still showing "waiting for the supplier"!

Chrontius@gmail.com said...

Yeah, I was all set to buy a Bluetooth headset after having such a good experience the last two times -- even when you were swamped and my order would be late, you let me know and unlike other places, were clear about why and when.

How about reserving some number of stocks for DX points purchase only? So while new people wait for backorder, returning customers probably with hundreds of DXP if they want something like R4, they don't have to wait but just grab it.
Happy VIP means much more than selling one more item, i think.

Free shipping on non-free sipped item would be great.
